General tips on how to wear a Pouchlings baby sling

Babies can be carried in a sling as soon as they are born - in fact, the sooner the better as they will be missing already the warmth, movement and comfort of their mother’s womb.

Remember, however, that BABY WEARING IS A LEARNED SKILL so be patient, take your time and don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it right straight away. Keep persevering and very soon using your sling will become second nature.

GENERAL WEARING TIPS:

  • Using any kind of baby sling successfully takes a little bit of practice. It is advisable to start with a well  fed and well rested baby.

  • The first few times you use the sling, it is very helpful to do so in front of a mirror.

  • When attempting a back carry for the first time in any type of sling, do so over a bed or with another adult to help.

  • When carrying a toddler on your back, be sure to pull the fabric up to their armpits at least – not just up to their waist.

  • Always make sure that  baby’s bottom hangs lower than their knees. They should sit in a “frog-legged” position, deep into the fabric,  with their knees bent and wide apart.. They are more likely to slip out if their legs are hanging straight.

  • Always be aware of your baby’s position in the sling. Use a sling mirror if necessary with back carries.

  • Do not use the sling with an uncooperative child.
