Why use a Pouchlings baby sling? | ||
|
Since babywearing has so many benefits why do we see so little of it in the West?Partly it is because we are told, erroneously I believe, by many parenting 'experts' that picking up a crying baby will only spoil it and teach it bad habits (and yet carried babies cry so much less…!). But also because many people find that the carriers we are familiar with, and certainly in my experience, are very often uncomfortable, impractical, unstylish and can only be used for short periods of time, and for only the first few months, before they become too painful. Sadly it is the baby-carriers themselves that put so many people off babywearing. In contrast, fabric slings, when worn correctly, are incredibly comfortable, versatile and can be used from birth right through to toddler-hood. How comfortable are they? They are extremely comfortable and considerably reduce back strain because the baby's weight is distributed evenly across your shoulders back and hips. They will not pull on your neck muscles like a front-loading-pack style carrier and your spine will stay straight when carrying an older child on your hip. They will also give your arms a much needed break! How easy are they to use?All fabric slings have a slightly greater learning curve than conventional 'clip-on' baby carriers because they offer so much more versatility, adjustability and range of carrying positions. However, with just a little bit of practice, they can be mastered very quickly. POUCHES are the simplest slings to use. Just slip the pouch over your head onto one shoulder like a MISS WORLD sash, and pop the baby in! Because of their simplicity, they are less versatile than the other slings but are a perfect “starter” sling. RING-SLINGS, like pouches, are put on very easily over one shoulder, but they can be more finely adjusted by pulling the tail fabric through the rings. POUCHLINGS ring-slings have an 'open' style tail meaning that the top and bottom edges of the sling can be adjusted independently of each other to give a perfect fit. Adjusting the sling to get it just right for you takes a little bit of practice but ring slings are the most speedily adjustable of all the slings and, as such, are perfect for breast-feeding, or for use with toddlers at the 'up + down' stage. Using a WRAP takes a bit more practice as the fabric has to be tied around the wearer and the baby in a variety of different 'ties'. However, once mastered, baby can be wrapped snugly in a very supportive double-shouldered carry in just a few minutes. There are countless ways of tying a wrap, making them the most versatile of slings, but most wearers find one or two favourite ties and stick to those. How will they look?Pouchlings slings are some of the most stylish slings on the market. They come in a large variety of machine washable fabrics, in many beautiful colours and original, contemporary designs. Are they safe?Pouchlings slings are completely safe and secure and comply with the British Standard for baby carriers BS EN: 13209-2:2005 We advise you, however, to always check the sling for signs of wear and tear and do not use if you have any concerns. ---------------------------------- Do you live in the Leamington Spa area?
